Foundation Course in Western Sidereal Astrology

Advanced Course in Western Sidereal Astrology

THE FOUNDATION COURSE IN WESTERN SIDEREAL ASTROLOGY
The foundation course is the only comprehensive course of study in western sidereal astrology. It is designed for the beginner, but will also be of great value to long-time practitioners. Much of the information presented here is new; it is the accumulation of decades of study and research and has not been published elsewhere. The course was created by Kenneth Bowser, who is widely regarded as one of the major figures in western sidereal astrology today.

The course consists of 140 single-spaced, spiral bound pages, with detailed references and footnotes. It includes twelve lessons with a self test at the end of each lesson. The course fee also includes four hours of private tutoring with Kenneth Bowser.

The course book will be shipped to you via the US Postal Service. Overseas orders will be sent by air mail.

Course Fee
The course fee is $350 (U.S. dollars only) and may be studied at the student's own pace.

Course Materials
Three books are required for this course: Charles Carter's Astrological Aspects, any Campanus Table of Houses such as the tables produced by R.C. Copriviza or Alexander Marr, and any of several sidereal ephemerides. The American Sidereal Ephemeris, available from ACS Publications in San Diego, California is especially recommended. All of these books are available on Amazon.com

Students are also asked to purchase a calculator. If you plan to take the advanced course, your calculator should have the trigonometric functions and be capable of adding and subtracting time.

FOUNDATION COURSE DESCRIPTION

LESSON ONE - Nomenclature and Categories
In this lesson you will become familiar with the basic tools and symbols of astrology. You will learn about the constellations and their qualities, elements and rulers. This lesson also includes an overview of the planets with their dignities and debilities.

LESSON TWO - Historical Remarks
Lesson two presents an overview of the train of events that brought sidereal astrology to the West. In order to be conversant in the art, it is necessary to know about the milieu in which it came about. Lesson two fills in the gap between the practice of Babylonian astrology in the ancient world and its reemergence in the 20th century in western Europe and the United States. It also addresses the sidereal nature of the astronomical/astrological material found in the Near and Middle East and introduces the work of Cyril Fagan, often called the father of modern western sidereal astrology.

LESSON THREE - The Planets
This lesson describes in detail the intrinsic meaning of each planet, the main players on the astrological stage.

LESSON FOUR - The Zodiac
Lesson four provides an overview of the history of the zodiac. This lesson also includes the exaltations of the planets and a detailed explanation of Cyril Fagan’s exaltation solution, considered by many to be his greatest achievement. It also includes an examination of the exaltations in the chart of the US presidency.

LESSON FIVE - The Sidereal Signs
This lesson describes the characteristics of the sidereal signs. Each sign is covered in detail with numerous examples and explanations of how the dignities and debilities operate in each sign.

LESSON SIX - Planetary Aspects
Lesson six covers the planetary aspects used in western sidereal astrology. The differences between the aspects in the eastern and western sidereal systems is also discussed. The student is referred to C.E.O Carter’s book Astrological Aspects for a concise description of each planetary combination. Since Astrological Aspects does not include aspects with Pluto, this chapter also includes an in-depth analysis of Pluto’s influence on each planet.

LESSON SEVEN - The Houses
This lesson describes the rationale of the house system and provides detailed descriptions of each of the twelve houses. The importance of angularity and dispositors is also discussed.

LESSON EIGHT - Astronomical Concepts and Horoscope Calculation
In this lesson you will learn how to set up a horoscope without recourse to a computer. It also includes an explanation of sidereal time, the obliquity of the ecliptic, the right ascension and declination system, and the celestial equator. The horoscope of U.S. president George W. Bush is used as an example.

LESSON NINE - Determination of House Cusps
Lesson nine provides an overview of the various house systems and shows you how to get Campanus house cusps—the house system favored by western siderealists—from tables or trigonometrically. You will also learn how to covert tropical longitude to sidereal longitude and learn how to interpolate positions of planets from tabular values in an ephemeris. George W. Bush is again the example subject.

LESSON TEN - Chart Interpretation
This lesson provides two examples of horoscope delineation. The charts of both George W. Bush and John Kerry are examined in detail, including zodiacal and house placements, angularity, stars and aspect relationships. A one-hour private tutoring session is included.

LESSON ELEVEN - Solar Returns
The solar return is a horoscope cast for the moment when the transiting Sun has reached the same celestial longitude as the natal Sun. Solar returns show the salient features of the birthday to birthday year; they are also extraordinary timing devices. In lesson eleven, you will learn to calculate and delineate your solar return. The solar returns of George W. Bush and John Kerry are used as examples, with special attention given to the aspects in play during the November 2004 election. The current solar return of George Washington’s first inauguration is also included. A one-hour private tutoring session is included.

LESSON TWELVE - The 2004 Presidential Election
This lesson offers a preview of some of techniques covered in the advanced course. Most astrologers predicted a win for John Kerry in the 2004 presidential election. An examination of George Bush’s progressed sidereal solar return (PSSR), his quarter solar return, his ennead return and the four lunar returns—including the demi-lunar, anlunar and demi-anlunar—all speak in chorus to his win.

FINAL EXAM
You will be given a birth date and asked to erect and interpret both a natal and a solar return chart. Once your analysis is submitted, you will receive an appointment for a private, two-hour tutoring session. Additional tutoring is also available.
